What is sthe meaning of Om Mani Padme Hum or Om?
You know , I am an admirer of Tibetan culture, I gave my second daugther the name Dalai for the Dalai Lama and I have a picture of him in my diningroom blessing all who see him, I know some meanings but from the more I will get the true or the one who will suit to my minds requirements in terms of enlightment, and I say this free because I am sure that this community of thinkers, you and all who answer , wont take me as a strange guy but as a same folk who wants to know, to go and to grow. Some days ago I received an invitation to join a group to support the cause of Tibetans and of course I will because I believe in One Planet with One Country and I think that frontier lines only divided but didnt erase, but by the other hand being a man of this 21st century and modern times I respect these because I believe in Karma also. Coming back to the question I have also been writing this beautiful words on books, notebooks, flags and whatever I have found when I have thought in Tibetans.
“It is very good to recite the mantra Om mani padme hum, but while you are doing it, you should be thinking on its meaning, for the meaning of the six syllables is great and vast… The first, Om [...] symbolize the practitioner’s impure body, speech, and mind; they also symbolize the pure exalted body, speech, and mind of a Buddha[...]”
“The path is indicated by the next four syllables. Mani, meaning jewel, symbolizes the factors of method-the altruistic intention to become enlightened, compassion, and love.[...]”
“The two syllables, padme, meaning lotus, symbolize wisdom[...]”
“Purity must be achieved by an indivisible unity of method and wisdom, symbolized by the final syllable hum, which indicates indivisibility[...]”
“Thus the six syllables, om mani padme hum, mean that in dependence on the practice of a path which is an indivisible union of method and wisdom, you can transform your impure body, speech, and mind into the pure exalted body, speech, and mind of a Buddha[...]”
– H.H. Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama, “Om Mani Padme Hum”
