Why is Buddha depicted as a type of fat in the popular media?
I always thought that the Buddha was thin – and most original images of him are a skinny guy. When did things Belly Fat Buddha comes?
Current Mind of all Buddhas might appear in any form, in the most appropriate time, please, or to help sentient beings to increase their mental capacity. The fat Buddha is a monk named "Butai" which appeared in the Tang Dynasty of China, which acted much like Santa Claus for our times. (Ps. "Butai" literally means bag made of fabric.) Nobody knew his real name, which appeared from nowhere and never spoke of his past. Usually lives in every market area in the street, hardly slept, did not need any food substances, and never seemed to require conventional normal human needs. Every time he was meditating, he walked around the market places, incomprehensible sang and sang songs and riddles. Occasionally, he would stop someone on the street and ask them what help they needed, and what material things they needed, and then put his hand in a bag he always carried, and take the things that people needed as gifts to people who stopped. So everyone always wonder what I had in the bag, and some even question, and he replied: "in the bag is as big as the universe." Some people even speculated that Butai times disappeared into the bag, and said that in the bag, there was a most impressive luxury palace where Butai retire to enjoy your vacation. In a occasion, his bag was stolen but the thief found nothing in the bag, so I refused, and got his backpack Butai, he continued to live a normal life. Many years later, after resting under a tree, and he knew that his time has come for him to leave, so they sang, "Maitreya, Maitreya, the Buddha of the future, which is in this world and no one in this world recognizes. "Under this tree going to pari-nirvana. People realized the Buddha was one of them, and not even know, so they made the statue seem to remember him for his generosity, therefore, the fat Buddha in China.
